Dallas Sports Federation Program Mission and ObjectivesMission Statement The mission of the Dallas Sports Federation Club is glorify God by providing young athletes with the opportunity to learn and enjoy the game of basketball at a highly competitive level. We offer a program, which will develop and improve individual as well as team skills, promote good sportsmanship, team spirit, and encourage character development. The club demands a high degree of ethical conduct by all its coaches, players, volunteers, and parents so that it provides a good example for the community, opponents, and its participants, thus helping their growth to adulthood. By accomplishing these goals, the Dallas Sports Federation will provide our players with additional exposure to the game of basketball thereby enhancing their opportunity to play at the junior high and high school level or beyond. Goals and Objectives 1. Offer a program that focuses on fundamental basketball skills development, team play, basketball education, and positive club activities. Provide team players with an opportunity to have fun! Coaching Philosophy and Strategy It will be the responsibility of the coaches to develop the team members ' individual character, physical skills, and knowledge of the game of basketball. At its best, basketball is a team game. Success is built on disciplined practice which in turn leads to success in games and renews commitment to practicing. Dallas Sports Federation coaches will be responsible for assessing penalties for improper behavior or violations of club guidelines. Conflicting coaching ideas, concepts, or techniques will not be taught. All coaches will share common beliefs about teaching of fundamental concepts, therefore providing a continuous and proper learning environment. Our method of instruction shall include: Elementary Instruction, Fundamental Reinforcement, and Progressive Drill Execution. Dallas Sports Federation coaches will all meet regularly to discuss team philosophy and game strategy. ExpectationsThe Dallas Sports Federation has high standards for everyone involved in the club. PLAYERS - All DSF players must demonstrate a commitment to the game of basketball through teamwork, hustle, intensity, and a positive attitude. All players are expected to possess the following talents and attributes necessary to blend their personality and physical skills into the team unit: Character: Respect for others, and oneself, with the desire to see those on your team succeed. Conduct: Follow the directions and guidance provided by team coaches. Behavior that leaves a positive impression when representing the Dallas Sports Federation. Show no disrespect towards game officials, fans, other athletes, or coaches. Do not use profanity, or ethnic or racial slurs. Do not strike or otherwise physically abuse other athletes. Never exhibit unsportsmanlike conduct. Excused absences will be given for family & school. These excused absences should be the exception, not the rule. They should be cleared with the coach ahead of time. Coaches will not tolerate poor efforts from the athlete or unexcused absences. Frequent excused absences or poor efforts will result in suspension from tournaments and possible expulsion from the club. COACHES - All Dallas Sports Federation coaches are selected based on their ability to teach fundamental skills and clearly communicate with the athletes, along with a past history of proven coaching success. Coaches must: PARENTS – Dallas Sports Federation parents must build up and support their player, other team members, and parents of other team members. Parents must possess high moral principals, be honest and fair, and set a superlative example for others. Parents are also responsible for providing suitable arrangements for the transportation of their player to practices, clinics, and tournaments. Parents are expected to abstain from unprofessional conduct such as: disrespect toward or harassment of game officials, fans athletes, or coaches; ethnic or racial slurs; and unsportsmanlike conduct. In addition to this all playing time, substitution patterns, and game management should be left to the sole discretion of the coaching staff. If there are ever problems or issues to discuss we ask that you not approach a coach directly but rather contact program director Steven M. Lee. Dallas Sports Federation parents are openly encouraged to participate in our club. There are many areas where parents can contribute, whether skilled in basketball or not. They include: Team Manager - An individual who helps with the administration and management of the team in addition to the welfare of all team members at training and competition. Team videographer - Video tapes of games are an exceptional tool to aid the coach in determining areas needing improvement. Fund Raising Committee - Parents who serve on this committee would be in charge of carrying out the current fund raising plan, and developing new methods for obtaining funds for the club. Solicit Donations of Consumables - We use tons of bottled water, towels, and first aid supplies (especially cold packs) during the season. If you know a business person who sells these things. Other Committees - Parents also have the opportunity to serve on the Tournament Committee, the Recruiting Committee, or the Publications Committee. |
